Transition and Accommodation Process
Welcome to Franklin Pierce! The following information is for students with disabilities, neurodiversities or conditions who plan on using accommodations while at Franklin Pierce University.
Step 1: Submit your request for accommodations
Submit your request for accommodation to the Office of Student Accessibility Services. Requests should be made in writing to the Office of Student Accessibility Services using the online Accommodations Request Form. If you need assistance requesting an accommodation please call the Office of Student Accessibility Services 603-899-4109
Submit current documentation of a disability, neurodiversity or condition to the Office of Student Accessibility Services. IEP’s and/or 504 plans may not be sufficient documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations. Please review the documentation guidelines for more information.
Step 2: Eligibility Determination
All newly submitted documentation for incoming students is reviewed by the Office of Student Accessibility Services.
If documentation is insufficient, you will receive an email describing why and what is needed in order to determine disability status.
Step 3: A Confidential Conversation
If documentation is sufficient the student will be contacted to set an appointment to discuss accommodations.
At this initial meeting, the Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services works with students to determine what accommodations are needed and reasonable, as determined by University policy and Federal Law.
If it’s determined academic accommodations are warranted, a letter of accommodation is generated with the student to share with faculty at the beginning of the semester or at any time there is a change in said letter. If housing and/or meal plan accommodations are warranted, the Office of Student Accessibility Services contacts all invested parties to inform them of the accommodations and the student is informed via email.
Please note: Faculty are under no obligation to accommodate a student until they are supplied with a Letter of Accommodation signed and dated by the student and the Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services. A student may request accommodations at any time, but the full process does not begin until documentation is received. Housing accommodations are renewed annually and academic accommodations for undergraduate and graduate students are renewed by academic year. If student experience a change of status or need through their accommodation plan, they should contact the Coordinator of Accessibility Services via email: studentaccessibility@franklinpierce.com
The Office of Student Accessibility Services does not monitor student performance. It is expected that if a student is experiencing personal, academic, and/or accommodation-related difficulties, that they will communicate via email, with the Coordinator of Student Accessibilities and seek assistance.
